Indications:- EICAS msg "STARTER CUTOUT _"
- Start valve open light remains illuminated beyond 52% N2 (Note: Start Switch may retract normally at around 50% N2 or remain latched out)
- Engine Start Switch selector may remian in Start position (latched out); Starter Switch System
- DO NOT ABORT START - to avoid damaging the starter
- Wait for engine to stablise
- Call for "STARTER CUTOUT _" Checklist
- Inform ATC and GND
- No applicable CB
- Check MEL
- If msg no longer displayed after start sw push in + start valve open light extinguished, most likely Starter Switch System fault, check MEL 80-11-2 Start Switch Systems.
- If msg stay shown + start valve open light remain illuminated (ie Start Valve in OPEN position; according to MEL, "dispatch with Engine Start Valve inoperative in open position is not permitted"), NO GO
- >> Engine bleed air switch - Off
- >> Shutdown affected engine; return to bay for maintenance
- Maintenance action is required
- Coordinate with ATC and GND for return to bay
- Complete "AFTER LANDING CHECKS" prior to parking

Common Errors:
- Calling for C/L prior to engine parameters stablised
- Confuse switch malfunction with start valve malfunction
- Read wrong MEL
