Impending Hot Start

Indications:
  • Rapid rising EGT
Probable Causes:
  • Slower/Normal N2 spool up
  • Higher than normal Fuel Flow (normal = approx. 0.3 after FCS to run)
Actions:
  • Abort start if EGT rapidly passes 300degC at approx. 40% N2
  • FCS to cutoff (by recall), start Timer
  • Note peak EGT
  • Call for "ABORTED ENGINE START" Checklist
  • Inform ATC if delay anticipated

Circuit Breaker(s):

  • NO
MEL:
  • NO

If engine restart required:
  • Select IGNITERS to Both
  • When N2 0% (Reset EEC)
  • Restart affected engine
  • Return IGNITER to 1 or 2
Common Errors:
  • Late to select FCS to cutoff
  • Not monitoring peak EGT
  • Not selecting IGNITERS to both for subsequent start
  • Not waiting for N2 to spool to 0%
  • Not returning IGNITER to original position after a restart
